Champions!

A Class Under 9s pose with their runners up medals after the Alan Michael Brown Cup Final

On the warm early summer's evening of May 25th our Under 9s finally realised their season long quest to become champions of the Camden & Islington Midweek Youth League when they easily beat Hampstead FC 4-0, but it took a final ten minute hat trick from half time substitute Kwame Batchelor-Anokye who has been scoring goals for fun this season to finish off the league's bottom club before they could celebate in the knowledge that they were now mathematically clear of their nearest rivals Crown & Manor languishing eleven points behind with three games left to play. All credit too as this game came just after the crushing disappointment of losing the Alan Michael Brown Cup Final to those strongest rivals from Hoxton ~ The Manor; in a 1-2 defeat after taking the lead. To pick themselves up like that and to put in such a complete and professional performance was a big achievement for ones so young and testimony to their season long focus.

That was just as well for just three nights later they put in a somewhat (and on refelection, understandable)"switched off" performance and surrendered their 100% record of played 11,won 11; allowing a fired up Isledon Wolves to impose themselves for a 2-0 victory that was fully deserved and to underline the Wolves' late season determination they then went on to defeat A Class' nearest rivals last Friday night whilst our boys were coming from behind to beat Recreativo Juniors 3-2 and re-establish their eleven point margin with just one game left to play.

Manager Reece Darchville has taken advantage of the fact that the title is wrapped up to start games with a number of the loyal players who have had to patiently sit in the technical area and await the call to come on as substitute such has been the incredible consistency of the squad all season, and we heartily thanks those particular players for their patience and loyalty throughout the campaign.

It's not an easy job being a manager of such a young team, and the impossibility of keeping all of the people (players and parents) happy all of the time has to be acknowledged and the job Reece has done since moving into the void left by the departure of "Joe Blax" in September and the holding operation of Under 10's manager Sean Fleming until November has been exemplary. The parents too of this particular squad have to be thanked for their support and backing ~ getting kids to Market Road for 4.15 for the 5pm Friday kick offs straight from school is no easy task and not once have we been let down by a single player failing to turn up on time right through the season. A fantastic achhievement and one which other sides would do well to acknowledge and seek to emulate. Kit has been lovingly cared for and kept clean with (again) not one item of team strip going missing, and the team have always taken to the field immaculately turned out and a real credit to the club..................looking like a team and conducting themselves like a team has been the foundation of the success and the youngsters have been a real credit to their club, their manager and parents but most importantly of all to themselves.

Well done A Class Under 9s
!
